Symbian^ 2 – History

Symbian^2 was the first open source Symbian operating system, which was available only to members of Symbian Foundation. Most of the source code of Symbian^2 is under the proprietary SFL license, while some portions of source code are EPL licensed.

However, the Symbian^2 platform was used in four models that were first unveiled on May 18, 2010 by NTT DOCOMO, INC. The four mobile phones were – DOCOMO STYLE Series F-08B, DOCOMO STYLE Series F-07B, DOCOMO PRIME Series F-6B, which were developed by Fujitsu Limited and the DOCOMO PRIME Series SH-07B that was manufactured by Sharp Corporation. Out of these four models, the DOCOMO STYLE Series F-07B was the first Symbian^2 device in the market place, which was shipped on May 21, 2010 in Japan.

All these models were offering several advanced features, including a full HD video recording and playback, 13.2 megapixel camera, waterproof body and Wi-Fi access point capability. Symbian^2 provides a wide range of convincing features for all mobile users to enjoy and benefit from. S^2 platform was based on Nokia Series 60 5.1 version.
